Bhubaneswar: The mercury was beyond 40°C in at least six locations in Odisha at around 2.30 pm on Wednesday. Bhubaneswar was the hottest place in the state at 43.2°C, while Jharsuguda recorded 42.9°C and Chandbali 42.2°C.
Meanwhile, the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has forecasted that the mercury will rise by 4°C to 6°C from April 26 and the day temperatures (maximum temperatures) may touch 45°C at several places in the state. It has issued an orange warning for severe to very severe heatwave in 23 districts from April 26.
The day temperatures recorded by IMD at various centres at 2.30 pm today are as below:
- Bhubaneswar: 43.2°C
- Jharsuguda: 42.9°C
- Chandbali: 42.2°C
- Baltimore: 41.4°C
- Rourkela: 40.8°C
- Sambalpur: 40.1°C
- Hirakud: 39.2°C
- Keonjhar: 38.4°C
- Gopalpur: 35.4°C
- Puri: 35.2°C
- Paradip: 34.6°C
