Bhubaneswar Is Rightly The Sports Capital Of India: FIH President

**Bhubaneswar:** “Bhubaneswar is rightly the Sports Capital of India,” said president of International Hockey Federation (FIH), Narinder Batra, today while attending the Governing Body Committee meeting of Hockey World Cup 2018 held here under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

While looking into the preparations for upcoming Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018, Batra said, “The Stadium as I saw has come up as a World Class Stadium. The player’s asylum is best in the world. Other arrangements in the stadium are coming up with world class benchmarking standards.”

During the meeting Sports Secretary Vishal Dev outlined the issues and presented the updates for discussion. Reviewing the progress of different scheduled works Chief Secretary Padhi directed the concerned departments and agencies to keep up the pace and complete all works before time.

Padhi further directed to ensure to provide better services including food and water in the hotels and guest houses where the players are scheduled to stay. Health and Tourism department officials were asked to undertake safety and health standards check up each day in the hotels.

It was decided to organise the stadium inauguration on October 10 with an exhibition match. On November 20 there would be lighting of Peace Flame at Dhauli and March to Kalinga Stadium. The grand opening ceremony of the World Cup 2018 would be on Novembe 27 at Kalinga Athletic Stadium.

The matches would be telecasted live from the stadium through large LED screens at Puri sea beach, Janata Maidan, Ekamra Hat, KIIT, Unit-I Market and Rourkela. Besides, it would also be displayed through LED screens in different districts of the State.

Review showed that all the infrastructure works are on the schedule. The sitting capacity of the stadium has been enhanced to 15086. Padhi directed Secretaries of concerned departments to take review of the progress on daily basis till all the works are given the last finding touch.

Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, Home Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy, Finance Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey, DGP RP Sharma, Sports Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev and top officials of India Hockey League and FIH among others attended the meeting.
