Bhubaneswar: Afraid of being shamed, an Odisha businessman reportedly attempted to end his life on Wednesday by stabbing himself several times with scissors after a girl blackmailed him to expose his dirty talk with her over WhatsApp video calls. The man has been admitted to a hospital here in critical condition.
The victim, an inhabitant of Dhenkanal, owns a shop at Nayapalli in the state capital.
According to reports, an unidentified girl befriended him on Facebook three days ago and chatted with him. It is said the woman also made a video call and convinced him to take off his clothes while recording the entire conversation. Subsequently, she abruptly cut the call and began to blackmail him with the nude video and demanded a hefty amount.
The victim approached the Cyber police station in the city and lodged a complaint against the unidentified girl but allegedly the police did little to act on his complaint. Fearing humiliation, he attempted to kill himself.
The victim was found lying unconscious inside his shop on Wednesday morning and was rushed to a hospital, where he had to undergo surgery.
