Bhubaneswar: A special POCSO court in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday sentenced one Manas Nayak to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2021.
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on Nayak. If he fails to pay the fine, he will face an additional one year of imprisonment.
The court also ordered a compensation of ₹6 lakh to be provided to the survivor as part of victim rehabilitation measures.
The case, registered at Khordha Model Police Station involved grave charges. Nayak was found guilty under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code—Sections 363 (kidnapping), 365 (wrongful confinement), 366 (abduction for forced marriage or illicit intercourse), 376(2)(n) (repeated rape), and 376(3) (rape of a minor), along with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which deals with aggravated penetrative sexual assault.
Special Public Prosecutor Subrat Priyadarshi represented the prosecution and secured the conviction.
