Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar has arrested a transgender person from Jharkhand who was accused of snatching a gold chain in the capital city.
The accused, Subhashree Pani, was arrested by the Capital Police Station team after nearly 10 months of investigation. Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena shared the information with the media persons on Monday.
According to the police, Subhashree Pani had allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman in the Niladri Vihar area of Bhubaneswar in July last year. A case was registered with the police and an investigation was launched immediately.
After months of tracking, the police finally located Subhashree’s whereabouts. The investigating team arrested her from Jharkhand on Sunday and has brought her to Bhubaneswar on transit remand.
DCP Meena stated that the accused has mortgaged the stolen gold chain at a bank in exchange for money. As a result, the chain could not be recovered. He further said that strict action would be taken against banks that accept gold ornaments without proper documentation.
