Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested two persons in connection with the decomposed body of a 13-year-old girl recovered from Nandan Vihar Housing Board Colony under Infocity police limits in Bhubaneswar on August 11 evening, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh told the media.
The arrested are Nanda alias Sukhlal Sai (29) and Nagendra Singh (35). One of the accused is the maternal uncle of the victim girl and another also a relative of her.
“The minor’s body was dumped in a conservancy lane, which was not identified then. A team from Infocity police led by ACP Zone-VI cracked the death mystery. After verifying CCTV footage collected from nearby areas, it was ascertained that the girl had gone to the house of a relative staying in the same locality on August 9. The key accused is the victim’s maternal uncle,” the DCP added.
“Following a detailed probe and during interrogation, the accused confessed to his crime. The crime scene has been recreated,” stated the DCP.
However, the reason for the crime is yet to be ascertained. According to police, the main accused had attacked the minor girl on her head with a wooden plank on the intervening day (at around 1.00 am on August 9), following an altercation over some issue. The girl sustained severe injuries in the incident and died on the spot. “The weapon of offence has also been recovered and the “Infocity police have forwarded the arrested duo to a local court,” DCP Singh said.
It is worth mentioning here that the minor girl’s body was found in a decomposed state. A foul smell emanated from the body prompting the locals to inform the police about it.
Initially, the police registered an unnatural death (U/d) case but it was subsequently converted to a murder case.
