Bhubaneswar: With no signs of rain, the heat wave prevailing across Odisha has been becoming severer by the day. The capital city Bhubaneswar recorded 30°C by 5.30 am on Monday, while the humidity level stood at 88%.
The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here said that hot and discomfort weather is likely to continue for two more days.
According to the weather office, there is no possibility of any significant change in day temperature (maximum temperature) in the state for the next two days. As a result, thunderstorms will continue along the coast and in interior Odisha for the next two days. In some parts of the state, the day temperature will be 4°C to 6°C above normal.
Although this heat and swelling is tolerable, it is very sensitive for young children, elderly and sick people. Hence, the IMD has advised people to stay away from direct sunlight and drink plenty of water. It has been further said that if not necessary one should refrain from traveling between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm and take a sufficient amount of drinks even if you are not thirsty.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for the heatwave to severe heatwave conditions at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, and Keonjhar districts on Monday. A yellow warning for heatwave conditions has been issued for Sundargarh, Nuapada, Kandhamal, and Mayurbhanj districts.
The weather office said that thunderstorms with lightning is also likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts on Monday.
