Bhubaneswar: High humidity level accompanied by severe heatwave conditions has made the life of Bhubaneswar denizens miserable.
Going by the latest data provided by the India Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar recorded 31 degree Celsius temperature with humidity as high as 87 per cent.
The rising temperatures combined with high humidity are making it difficult for people to go about their daily activities. Not just the state capital, but other parts of Odisha are reeling under the dry weather conditions.
The mercury crossed 30°C in many places in Odisha around 8.30 am. Places that have been experiencing scorching heat include Bhawanipatna (39°C), Titlagarh (38°C), Bolangir (37.4°C), Sonepur (36.6°C), Jharsuguda (36.6°C), Hirakud (36.4°C), Sambalpur (36.2°C), Rourkela (35.4°C), Bargarh (35.4°C), Boudh (36°C), Sundargarh( 34°C) and Talcher (34.4°C).
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature is likely to remain 3-5 degrees above normal at many places in Odisha during next two to three days.
“Due to prevailing dry conditions in the state and strengthening of northwesterly dry winds in the middle and upper level of the atmosphere, maximum temperature (day temperature) likely to be above normal by 3-5 degree Celsius at many places over the districts of interior Odisha during nest 2 to 3 days. Consequently, maximum temperature likely to be between 43-45 degree Celsius at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha with isolated severe heatwave conditions. Also, due to the absence of any major synoptic situation and the presence of high humidity, hot and humid conditions likely over coastal Odisha during the next three days”, read the release issued by IMD regional centre.
IMD has issued yellow warning for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal and Bolangir district. Besides, Keonjhar, Angul, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Bargarh, Nuapada and Kalahandi will witness severe heatwave conditions. Coastal Odisha will experience a remarkable rise in humidity level.
On Wednesday, Bolangir district recorded highest maximum temperature of 46.3 degrees. Places which recorded maximum temperature of over 44 degrees Celsius included Sonepur (46.2), Titlagarh (46), Jharsuguda (46).
