Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar, the state capital experienced its coldest night in 22 years, with the night temperature dropping to a record low of 9.2°C on January 10, 2026.
This is the third-lowest night temperature recorded in January since 2004, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD has warned of continued cold wave conditions in several districts, including Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Cuttack, Khurda, and Angul, advising people to take necessary precautions.
As per the IMD data, Jharsuguda recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 6.2°C at 5:30 am. Keonjhar followed closely with a temperature of 9°C, while the capital city, Bhubaneswar, recorded a temperature of 10.2°C.
Going by the IMD prediction, the cold wave is likely to continue for the next two weeks, thanks to the dry and cold northerly winds sweeping in.
