Bhubaneswar: Residents of the capital city of Bhubaneswar woke up to a pleasant morning on Monday following moderate thundershowers late Sunday night which brought down the temperature significantly. The thundershowers brought the much-needed respite from the heat wave conditions.
After a long spell of heatwave conditions and day temperatures soaring above 40°C, even 45°C in some places in western Odisha, life was becoming unbearable daily. On the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, people heaved a sigh of relief.
On Sunday, the Twin Cities of Odisha and Bhubaneswar and Cuttack residents experienced extreme day temperatures of 41.6°C and 40.2°C respectively.
Meanwhile, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has predicted that the intense heat wave condition in Odisha will continue for another two days, and after that, the state is likely to get some relief as the monsoon is expected to hit the state on June 21.
People across the state have been advised to take precautionary measures like avoiding heat exposure during peak hours, staying hydrated, and caring for vulnerable persons including old, children, sick, and pregnant women.
