Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police on Thursday detained a Plus II student on charges of beheading a person who opposed his love affair with his niece.
The incident occurred late Wednesday night at the Jagannath Nagar under Khandagiri police limits in Khurda district.
The deceased has been identified as Jaga Mallick. Police, meanwhile, have detained the accused for more interrogation.
According to police, the accused was in a relationship with the niece of the deceased Jaga. However, Jaga was not happy with their relationship and was against of it which led to a heated argument between the accused and the deceased. On the fateful night, the accused was lying in wait for Jagga and attacked him with a sword, beheading him on the spot. The incident took place when Jaga was on his way home.
Upon being informed, a police team rushed to the spot to find Jaga’s beheaded body lying on the road and sent the body for post-mortem to Capital Hospital.
After a two-hour search, police managed to nab the accused from a nearby location. Police are likely to interrogate the accused to know more about the incident.
Khandagiri police have registered a case in this connection and are further investigating the matter.
