**Bhubaneswar**: The capital city witnessed temperature touching 40 degrees Celsius making it very difficult for the denizens to venture in the streets. The Meteorological Department recorded this temperature at 1:30. It is clear that the temperatures have shooted up rapidly in the State, with Malkangiri sizzling with 42.4 degrees.
This sharp rise in in day temperature has forced the people to remain indoors, especially in the afternoon. The streets remained deserted. The mercury touched the 40 degree mark in Odisha capital for first time this year.
According to Met Director, Sarat Sahu,” There is a possibility of low pressure over Bay of Bengal on April 14 or 15 which may bring some respite to these heat wave conditions.”
There remains no relief in the night, with the IMD observing that minimum temperatures too have shot up appreciably.
