Bhubaneswar: The Jagamara street under Khandagiri police limits on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar turned into a battlefield late Tuesday night as two groups armed with deadly weapons attacked each other reportedly for control over the area.

Several youths from the rival groups sustained injuries, some of them critical, as they attacked each other with swords, machetes, bhujalis, and other weapons. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

According to reports, eight youths from the Pandara area in Bhubaneswar visited a food stall at Jagamara on Tuesday late at night when they were attacked by members of another group and it led to a violent clash. Even locals and passersby were injured in the clash triggering fear among the residents in the area.

On being informed, Khandagiri police arrived at the spot and arrested five youths, while the remaining managed to flee the spot. The police also seized a motorbike and some liquor bottles from the spot.

The Khandagiri police have launched a probe into the incident. As per preliminary reports, the clash was a fallout of some past enmity between the two groups.
