Bhubaneswar: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized synthetic drugs worth Rs 1.5 lakh in Bhubaneswar with the arrest of 23-year-old engineering student.
The seizure marks the city’s entry into the list of major cities affected by LSD. The accused, Aryaman Patnaik, was arrested after a parcel containing the drug arrived from abroad.
Patnaik, a resident of Bhubaneswar, is studying in an engineering college in Greater Noida, UP. This is the first time synthetic drugs like LSD have been found being sold in the open market in the State Capital.
LSD, or lysergic acid diethylamide, is a potent synthetic drug that can cause severe addiction. It is often disguised as small paper or chips that are placed on the tongue, leading to loss of control and various health issues like sweating, insomnia, and loss of appetite. Repeated use can lead to high blood pressure and heart attacks.
The arrest has raised questions about how the youth got addicted to this deadly drug and how LSD, available abroad, reached Odisha.
