Bhubaneswar: In furtherance of its policy of zero tolerance to extortionists the Commissionerate Police has launched a toll-free street helpline number 7077798111 for citizens to report if they fall prey to extortion inside Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) during the upcoming festival season.
“It has come to notice that with the advent of the festival season some anti-social elements resorting to extortion in the name of ‘chanda’. People are also terrified and are forced to shell out money to these anti-social elements. It has been also noticed that people being scared are also not reporting the same to the police. For such anti-social elements, Bhubaneswar Police has a zero-tolerance policy. To stop such crimes Bhubaneswar UPD has launched a secret helpline number 7077798111 has been launched,” informed Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh through a post on X (formerly Twitter) today.
Singh said that people can lodge their complaint to the police on this number through WhatsApp and message.
The identity of the complainants shall be kept confidential, he added.
Further, people can also report their complaints using social media platforms like Twitter (now X) and Facebook and police will immediately act on it, the DCP assured.
“Let us come together to celebrate the festival season this year in a peaceful and cordial manner,” he appealed.
