Bhubaneswar: A youth from Bhubaneswar was allegedly duped of Rs 10 lakh in an online investment scam, prompting the Commissionerate Police to arrest three persons from different parts of the state.
The accused—Siddhartha Pujari (arrested from Koraput), Abinash Sahu (from Khordha), and Vivek Singh (from Jaipur Town)—allegedly ran a fraudulent investment scheme, using fake websites and a network of agents to lure unsuspecting investors with promises of high returns.
Speaking to media on Sunday, Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena said, “The accused promised a 7% return and initially paid a few investors to build trust. Once they secured larger investments, they stopped the payouts.”
The victim lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station after failing to receive any returns on his Rs 10 lakh investment. A subsequent investigation led to the arrests.
Police suspect more people may have fallen prey to the scam. Further investigation is ongoing.
