Bhubaneswar: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Bijay Kumar Sharma on Wednesday reviewed law and order situation in context of the upcoming Bijepur bye-election to be held on October 21.
The review meeting held at the district police headquarters in Bargarh was attended by IG (Western region), DIG and Superintendent of Police of six bordering districts among other senior police officials, said sources.
On the other hand, with just few more days left for the poll, both political party leaders and the administrative machinery are on alert, sources said.
While campaigning was slack due to Durga Puja, political parties have been warming up voters for the battle on October 21 by organising party worker meets etc., they added.
Apart from the BJD, the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party have released their star campaigners list.
Ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to visit Bijepur on October 17. Patnaik will be on a two-day visit to Bijepur and will be campaigning for his party at different places in the constituency, party sources revealed.
