Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths apprehended Sub-Inspector Jagaa Bariha of Bijepur Police Station in Bargarh district for accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from a scrap dealer.

According to a release issued by Vigilance, the accused had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from the trader to allow him to run his business smoothly without lodging any cases against him.

After the complainant expressed his inability to pay the full amount, Bariha reduced the demand to Rs 7,000 and threatened to take strong action if not paid.

Left with no option, complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities.

Acting on a complaint, Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and nabbed Bariha while he was taking the bribe money from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe money of Rs 7,000 has been recovered from Bariha’s possession and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at three locations linked to the SI to investigate disproportionate assets.

Sambalpur Vigilance registered a case under Section 7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. An investigation is currently in progress against the accused police officer.
