Bhubaneswar: Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA), Bhubaneswar has won the Union Home Minister’s Trophy for the Best Police Training Institution at National Level for the year 2020-21 in the Gazetted Officers category.
The Academy will also get a reward of Rs. 20 lakhs (in the form of grant-in-aid) from the Government of India for this National level recognition, said an official press release.
The State Academy was chosen as the Best Police Training Institution from among the Police Training Institutions of all States and UTs of the country.
The Academy was continuously winning the Union Home Minister’s Zonal Level Trophy in previous years for the Best Police Training Institution at Eastern Zonal level for the years 2015-16, 2016-17, 2018-19 and 2019-20 in different categories.
It is the first time that it got recognition as the Best Police Training Institution of the country.
Biju Patnaik State Police Academy is the premier Police Training Institute in Odisha. It was established in the year 2005.
The Academy provides long-duration Basic Training Course to the direct recruit OPS Officers (D.S.P) and Sub-Inspectors, Sergeants, Deputy Subedars of Odisha Police after their joining.
Till now the Academy has trained such 65 direct recruit OPS Officers (DSP) in 6 batches, over 3200 Sub Inspectors/ Sergeants/ Deputy Subedars in 24 batches. The Academy also trains police ASI, Officers of Excise, Transport (OMVD), Forest, Prison Departments and Central Excise of Govt. of India.
For serving police officers, it conducts In-service training courses in classroom teaching and also online mode on wide-ranging issues.
Over the last few years, lots of qualitative improvement has been brought in the police training by the State Academy which has been recognized by the Government of India.
