Phulbani: Two bike-borne miscreants allegedly looted Rs 17.5 lakh from a trader and his manager here while they were on their way to deposit the money in the bank.
Grocery shop owner Ajay Patra and his manager Ramesh Pradhan astride a scooter were on their way to the Axis Bank near Hatapada to deposit Rs 17.5 lakh when two miscreants riding a motorcycle snatched the bag containing the cash from them and sped away.
“My brother and his manager were on their way to the bank when two persons who came on a bike pushed them. When they fell down, the miscreants snatched the bag and sped away.
There was Rs 17.50 lakh cash in the bag. We have reported the matter to the police,” said Bhaskar Patra, the trader’s brother.
Patra said that his brother has been injured after he fell down from the scooter and was undergoing treatment.
“They came from our right side and snatched the bag. As a result, the vehicle lost balance. Ashwini Patra who was riding the bike fell down first then I too fell down. We were on our way to Axis Bank to deposit money. The bag contained Rs 17,50,050 and two voucher books,” said Ramesh Pradhan, the trader’s manager.
Phulbani Town police have launched an investigation into the matter and are checking CCTV footage from the vicinity of the incident.
