Nabarangpur: Nabarangpur police have been successful in busting a bike lifting gang with the arrest of one of its members and recovery of 10 stolen bikes.
The arrestee has been identified as one Narendra Majhi of Tanda village under Papdahandi police limits, police said.
Thefts of bikes have been rampant in Nabarangpur and neighbourhood for over a year.
Following an analysis of CCTV footage of bike theft in front of Narsingh Lodge, police were able to identify Majhi.
In order to understand Majhi’s modus operandi, police set a trap by leaving a bike with its key in place near Ichhabatiguda. While Majhi was about to leave the place with the bike, police officials who were in hiding pounced upon him.
During Majhi’s interrogation, police could gather a lot of information on how he had managed to sell the bikes he stole and where. Based on his information police have recovered ten stolen bikes from places like Tonda, Sirisi, Raighar, etc.
Tariq Ahmad IIC Nabarangpur police station has said that police are on the lookout for two of Majhi’s accomplices who are on the run.
Several more stolen vehicles will be recovered once they are apprehended, he added.
Majhi was forwarded to a local court today.
