Bhubaneswar: A youth died when an ambulance coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with his bike on the Bolangir-Sambalpur Highway near Fasada Chhaka, on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Sumant Pradhan, a resident of Jadamuda village near Loisingha.
According to eyewitnesses, Sumant was on his way to Loisingha from Bolangir when the accident took place. Sumant succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who demanded compensation for the victim’s family and the arrest of the ambulance driver.
On a tip-off, Loisingha police reached the spot and pacified the agitated crowd.
Notably, there were no patients in the ambulance at the time of the accident. The driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
