Balasore: A motorbike rider was killed after a tanker hit him near the Udala State Highway in Nilagiri area of Odisha’s Balasore district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjeev Behera (38) of Dahisada village near Soro.
According to reports, the biker was travelling on the Udala State Highway when a speeding tanker coming from the opposite direction hit his two-wheeler. The motorbike rider died on the spot. The tanker driver tried to flee the scene after the accident but the locals chased the tanker and caught it near Sergarh. Later, they handed over the tanker driver to the police.
As the news of the accident spread, a large crowd gathered at the spot and blocked the road demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased. At the time of writing this report, several vehicles are stranded on both sides of the road.
The police have reached the spot and are trying to persuade the agitators to lift the road blockade.
