Bhubaneswar: In a decision that has brought joy to farmers, the Jajpur Collector P. Anvesha Reddy announced that the Biraja Haat will return to its old location near the Birja Temple in Jajpur from next Sunday. The decision was taken after a meeting with intellectuals, senior citizens, and temple servitors to resolve the dispute over the daily vegetable market.
The haat was shifted to the Sant Madhav area on January 19, 2024, to undertake the Biraja project work. However, after the change of government, farmers and traders had been demanding that it be returned to its old location.
As per the Collector’s announcement, a model haat will be built permanently near the old location, with separate stalls for traders and houses for night shopkeepers. Parking and toilet facilities will also be arranged for traders and customers. The construction work will be carried out simultaneously with the functioning of old market.
A second meeting was convened to make a resolution for Biraja Haat. We have decided to bring back the haat to its original location, as per the interest of the farmers. At the same time, temple project works will go on without any hindrance,” the Collector said.
