Bhubaneswar: As bird flu scare continues to grip the Capital City, the Health and Family Welfare department is working on action mode to conduct medical check up of people residing in vulnerable locations.
Health Department Principal Secretary, Nikunja Bihari Dhal today met a team of officials from the Central Government and briefed them about the steps and measures undertaken by the State to keep the situation under control.
The Central team was led by Senior Regional Director from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Two senior doctors from Kolkata and Delhi will be in Bhubaneswar to make an assessment of the situation, said Dhal.
“We have been carrying out health check-ups as per the protocol in the Bird Flu affected areas. The culling activity is being done in one-kilometre radius while health checkups is being done within an area of three-kilometre radius on a daily basis,” he said.
Besides, area within 10-kilometre radius is also being inspected and health checkups will be carried out on a weekly basis within this area, added Dhal.
Culling activity is carried out by the Animal Husbandry department but the health checkup of the personnel involved in culling the birds will be done by the H&FW Department, he added.
Debashish Bhattacharya, a member of the Central team said, “There has been a bird flu outbreak in OUAT, for that a three-member team from the Central Emergency Medical Relief has been deputed here. We have come to see the health status. We have discussed with the Health Secretary and are happy with the development so far. All the activities are being carried out as per protocol.”
