Bhubaneswar: Bitti Hottra Mohanty, son of former DGP (Prison) who was convicted of raping a German tourist in Rajasthan’s Alwar in 2006, succumbed to stomach cancer in AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on late Sunday night.

According to reports, Bitti Hottra breathed his last while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Hospital authorities on Monday said that he was suffering from stomach cancer and breathed his last around midnight Sunday.

He was admitted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar in June this year after he complained of bleeding and was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Bitti Hotra, son of former Odisha DGP (Prison) Bidya Bhusan Mohanty, was convicted for his involvement in the rape of a German tourist in Rajasthan’s Alwar. Bitti Hottra was convicted by the Fast Track Trial Court in Alwar within 15 days of his arrest on April 12, 2006.

Later, he sought parole citing his mother’s ill health but went absconding. Kerala Police re-arrested Bitti Hotra in 2013 after some bank officials alerted the local police that he had submitted fudged documents to get a bank job in Thiruvananthapuram.
