Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) today issued a notice to the Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack seeking a report along with the status of enquiry in the matter pertaining to the suicide of a Plus III Arts 1st year girl student of BJB Autonomous College, Bhubaneswar.
The OHRC has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack to submit the report in sealed cover latest by the next date of hearing which has been fixed for July 19.
The State rights body taking a serious view of the matter issued the notice by taking suo motu cognizance on the basis of media reports.
The OHRC said that it appears from the suicide note that the death of the deceased occurred due to ragging in a hostel inside the BJB Autonomous College campus.
The body of Ruchika Mohanty, a first-year student of the +3 Arts stream was found hanging inside the ladies’ hostel of the BJB Autonomous College on Saturday.
In a purported suicide note, Ruchika had alleged that she was subjected to mental harassment by three seniors which forced her to take the extreme step.
