Bhubaneswar: A group of students of BJB College in Bhubaneswar staged a road blockade in front of their institution paralysing vehicular movement between Bhubaneswar and the pilgrim city Puri on Thursday.
According to reports, the students were protesting against the arrest of a former student who visited the college on Wednesday to appear for an entrance examination. A police team arrived at the college campus and picked up the former student, Smruti Ranjan Panda. The police, however, did not give any reason for their action.
Angered over the arrest of Panda, a group of students locked the college gate on Thursday morning and staged a road blockade on the Puri-Cuttack Road. They sat on the road and burnt tyres demanding the release of Panda.
A large number of vehicles were seen stranded on the road on both sides of the college. Later, police arrived at the scene and tried to appease the agitating students.
