BJD Accepts Challenge Of Congress & BJP During Its Party Foundation Day Celebration

**Bhubaneswar: ** While Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee and Odisha unit of BJP have threatened to protest it as ‘Black Day’ at the grassroots level across Odisha on the ruling BJD’s 21st Foundation Day celebration, the party in power today accepted the challenge and dubbed it a mere lipservice.

In his media reactions, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb burst, “The thing that the BJP and Congress are claiming to do tomorrow, I accept the challenge. I also request the media to observe what these two parties could be able to do at the ground level on the day. They simply resort to lipservice.”

He stated, “The Prime Minister visited yesterday. He has visited Odisha eight times. He repeats the same thing. He is claiming to make Odisha No1 as well as build it up new. But, he didn’t utter a single line on what he has done for Odisha and its people in the last five years.”

He lambasted, “Pointing finger at others is the motto of BJP. It should rather ask itself how many promises given to the people of Odisha have been fulfilled during the last five years.”

He added, “Similarly, Congress was in deep slumber. Now after winning in the three States has been showing off its activeness. No objection. We accept the challenge of both the opposition parties.”

He stated further, “Our Foundation Day will be celebrated at every constituency and block level. We will tell the people that we have fulfilled whatever we had promised in 2014.”

Regarding electoral focus, the BJD spokesperson asserted, “Our governance is our focus. This we have been claiming from the very beginning. We had promised the people and garnered their votes. We had assured that we will work for the development of Odisha. We will once again go to the people and beg for votes basing on our promises fulfilled. This message we’ll spread through our rank and file among the people during our Foundation Day celebration.”

Earlier in the day, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik had said at a presser, “We are observing ‘Black Day’ because this State Government is curtailing the power of Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad despite being guaranteed by our Constitution.”

“The rights of the Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti are being withdrawn and squeezed. By observing the ‘black day’, we intend to expose it before the general public,” he stated.
