Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today moved the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing government property in the Nuapada by-election campaign.
The BJD, in a memorandum to the CEO, stated that ruling party candidate Jay Dholakia has extensively used government property for his campaign, with posters and banners featuring Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Parvati Parida, and other BJP ministers.
The BJD alleges that the BJP has put up campaign posters and banners on electricity poles, signboards, and National Highway No. 353 between Nuapada and Khariar. The party claims that this is a clear misuse of government resources and a gross violation of Model Code of Conduct.
The BJD has demanded the immediate removal of all illegal banners and hoardings put up by BJP. Additionally, the party has demanded an independent investigation into the circumstances under which the local administrative officials removed the legally installed BJD posters.
A party delegation, including MP Sulata Deo and Lenin Mohanty, has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Officer’s office, seeking immediate intervention in the matter. The party alleges that the administration is turning a blind eye to the ruling party’s advertisements while removing BJD’s posters and banners.
