BJD And Congress Target Centre On ‘Job-Creation’ Report Card
**Bhubaneswar:** With a month and a half to go for the general elections the unemployment rate report creates ripples in political and economic circles.
The National Sample Survey Office’s (NSSO’s) periodic labour force survey (PLFS) report has turned out to be an effective and timely tool for the opposition to attack the Central Government.
Taking a dig at the Centre, Odisha Congress veteran Suresh Routray said that the Central Government is a ‘rudderless vessel’.
“It (Centre) never had any proper scheme in place to address unemployment issue. The two-crore-jobs-a-year promise was an overstatement. The BJP has expertise in pronouncing false and exaggerated figures.”
Routray added, only a meagre share of the population, those affiliated to the BJP have gained something during the NDA regime. Rest of the country, especially youths have suffered badly.
Echoing Routray’s views, the Biju Janata Dal said that it was due to the lack of foresight of the Central Government, the unemployment rate is the highest in last 45 years.
“In its election manifesto of 2014 the BJP had promised two crore jobs per year. Leave apart fulfilling the 2-crore committment, the unemployment has reached a record-high during 2014-19,” BJD Spokesperson Sasmit Patra said.
The situation of unemployment has exposed the committment of the Centre and BJP for youths. While there are no jobs for youths, the existing jobs were hit badly due to demonitisation, added Patra.
