Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has come out in support of Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, who was suspended for seven days for ‘misconduct’ in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
A delegation of BJD members met the Speaker Surama Padhy, requesting her to revoke the suspension order of Bahinipati. The BJD members urged the Speaker to reconsider the decision.
Both Congress and BJD workers protested against the suspension, terming it one-sided. Bahinipati himself questioned the rules under which he was suspended.
Notably, the suspension was imposed after repeated disruptions caused by the Congress MLA in the House. On Monday, Bahinipati allegedly broke the podium microphone inside the Assembly, creating chaos. Despite receiving warnings, the MLA purportedly persisted in his disorderly conduct on Tuesday, forcing the Speaker to take action against him.
