Jharsuguda: Many activists of both Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were detained by police for staging dharnas over separate issues pertaining to the death of Lalit Kumar Sahu, who working as a cook at Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kisore Das’ house.
While BJP members had called for a peaceful dharna to be staged in front of Jharsuguda Town Police Station from 9 AM to 1 PM demanding the resignation of the Minister. The saffron party activists said that they will continue their protest till Lalit’s death is considered a case of murder instead of suicide.
On the other hand, the BJD members had called for a dharna alleging the BJP is trying to politicise the issue. Lalit’s father Belarsan Sahu had on Sunday filed a complaint with the local police alleging BJP leaders are forcing him to raise allegations of foulplay in Lalit’s death.
Apprehending breach of peace, loss of life and property in the area, and giving rise to law and order situation, Jharsuguda Sub-Collector ordered to impose Section 144 in front of Jharsuguda Police Station today with a view to immediate safeguard of the life of the general public of Jharsuguda district.
As the activists of both political parties turned up for the dharnas despite the prohibitory orders, police detained activists of both parties.
