Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has called a 6-hour shutdown in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, September 24, protesting the deteriorating law and order situation in the State following the assault on army officer and his fiancée at Bharatpur police station.
The bandh will be observed in the Capital city and adjacent areas on Tuesday. The six-hour bandh will begin from 6 AM, BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra informed at a press meet.
Strongly condemning the Bharatpur police brutality incident, the regional party has requested the public to extend support to the bandh.
The incident involved the misbehaviour to an army officer and his friend by police at Bharatpur police station. Various organizations have expressed outrage over the matter.
Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.
Women wing of the BJD has submitted a memorandum to the President, highlighting the State’s deteriorating law and order.
BJD said that BJP is clebrating the 100-day anniversary while trying to suppress the incident that occurred on September 15 night at Bharatpur police station.
On a 100-day journey, the son of the Governor brutally attacked an Officer of the State. At the end of 100 days, the Bharatpur incident took place, the BJD said.
