Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has called for a six-hour strike in Odisha’s Puri district on August 7, demanding justice in the alleged sexual assault and subsequent mysterious death of a minor girl from Balanga.
The strike will be observed from 6 AM to 12 PM, the party announced during a press conference held earlier today. The BJD alleged serious lapses in the ongoing investigation and claimed that the state government is attempting to shield the real perpetrator.
The minor girl, who had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Delhi, passed away under unexplained circumstances. The BJD has questioned the official version of events and pointed to inconsistencies in the narrative shared by authorities. According to the party, the victim’s father initially spoke out but later changed his statement, allegedly under pressure.
Addressing the press, Puri district BJD president Umakanta Samantray said the party is deeply concerned about the lack of transparency in the case and the failure of law enforcement to deliver justice. He warned that the BJD would intensify its agitation if the government does not act decisively.
Calling the case a matter of public conscience, the BJD demanded a thorough and impartial investigation, urging the government to reveal the truth and bring the guilty to book.
