Bhubaneswar: In a significant development in the Nuapada assembly by-election, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Snehangini Chhuria filed her nomination papers today, October 20, 2025, which is the last day for filing nominations. The by-election is scheduled to be held on November 11, 2025.
Chhuria, accompanied by senior party leaders, including Prasanna Acharya, Pramilla Mallick, and Tukuni Sahu, among others, submitted her nomination papers to the Returning Officer. Notably, the nomination was filed in a relatively low-key ceremony, with only about 30-40 party leaders and women leaders in attendance.
This development comes after a massive roadshow held on Sunday, which showcased the party’s strength and unity. The BJD’s campaign is being closely watched, with party president Naveen Patnaik reportedly planning a two-day visit to the constituency to boost Chhuria’s campaign.
The by-election has garnered significant attention due to the triangular contest between BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria, BJP’s Jay Dholakia, who is the son of the late MLA Rajendra Dholakia, and Congress candidate Ghasiram Majhi. Both Dholakia and Majhi had already filed their nomination papers earlier.
With the nominations filed, the stage is set for a high-stakes contest that will determine the future of the Nuapada assembly seat. The election is seen as a crucial test for all three parties, with each vying for victory in this key constituency.
