Bhubaneswar: Two persons, Sikhar Jena, brother of ward-32 BJD Corporator Sridhar Jena, and his nephew Alok Kumar Jena were injured in a firing a few meters away from Lakshmisagar police station in the capital city here on Wednesday night. The injured were rushed to Capital Hospital but shifted to a private hospital later for better treatment.

According to reports, Corporator Sridhar Jena’s elder nephew was returning home when some people stopped his vehicle by parking their car in front of his vehicle. Soon, things turned ugly the intruders opened fire at Jena’s nephew.

When Jena’s elder brother and younger nephew rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident, the intruders allegedly started abusing them. Then one of the accused reportedly took out a pistol and opened fire in the air.

When police seized the pistol from the accused, he allegedly took out another pistol and shot at Jena’s elder brother and nephew.

Meanwhile, the incident is said to be a fallout of a political rivalry.

Talking to the media on Thursday, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said, “The police have recovered two pistols – one licensed and another country-made, and nine live cartridges from the spot. We have also arrested two main accused in the case.”

“Two separate cases have been registered at the Lakshmisagar police station in connection with the firing incident. We have also identified the other accused and will arrest them soon, said Singh.
