Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday moved the Election Commission demanding the cancellation of former Kendrapda MP Baijayant Panda's candidature in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

A delegation of the BJD led by party Spokesperson Sasmit Patra filed a written complaint with Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar apprising him of the alleged non-disclosure of facts and figures by Panda in 2014 election affidavit.

Patra said that Panda had concealed information about his Vice-Chairmanship of IMFA and that he was drawing an annual salary of Rs 1 crore from the company.

"This time (2019 elections) Mr Panda's election affidavit mentions all these details with clarity. The contradiction in both the affidavits (2014 and 2019) corroborates the concealing of facts and a blatant wrongdoing. Therefore, we demand that Mr Panda's candidature from Kendrapada Lok Sabha seat should be cancelled," Patra added.

Despite attemts, Panda's reaction to these allegations were not available.

The BJD also alleged that the Election Commission was maintaining a bias towards the complaints filed by the regional party. "Our Cuttack candidate Debasis Samantray was served a notice overnight because of a social media post. Whereas, none of the complaints we have filed so far have been attended duly," the BJD spokesperson added.
