Bhubaneswar: The BJD today demanded the BJP to immediately remove Jayanarayan Mishra from the post of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Odisha Assembly for his shocking and derogatory behaviour towards a woman police officer on duty. The BJD also demanded an apology from Mishra to the 4.5 crore people of Odisha, especially women.
Addressing a presser here today, BJD spokesperson Shreemayee Mishra said, “We demand that Odisha BJP should immediately remove Mishra from the post of Leader of Opposition in Odisha Vidhan Sabha
for his shocking and derogatory behaviour. Also Odisha BJP and Mishra should apologize to 4.5 crore people of Odisha and especially the women of Odisha for having disrespected and denigrated the dignity of a woman in public today”.
They must understand such derogatory actions are not acceptable in Odisha’s culture and tradition, the BJD spokesperson added.
The BJD spokesperson said that it is well known that BJP MLA Mishra is a habitual criminal with 14 cases against him including murder for which he was in jail and is now on bail.
“Mishra has a habit of threatening and assaulting people. Today again he has physically
assaulted a lady police officer who was on duty. The video of this shocking assault is also in the media before the people of Odisha,” she alleged.
Taking a dig at the BJP, the BJD spokesperson said, “Odisha BJP speaks about the dignity and respect for women. Is this how Odisha BJP and its leaders show respect and protecting dignity of women? By physically assaulting lady police officer on duty by the Odisha BJP’s Leader of Opposition in Odisha Vidhan Sabha? Jaynarayan Mishra has also in the past embarrassed the Odisha BJP by such actions”.
Mishra today allegedly manhandled Inspector-in-charge of Dhanupali police station, Anita Pradhan during a BJP protest in Sambalpur.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered at the Sambalpur Town police station in this connection under sections 353, 354, 332, 294, 500, 341, and 506 of the IPC on the basis of a complaint lodged by Pradhan.
Also, all women police officers of Sambalpur have submitted a memorandum to Regional Development Co (Northern) in connection with the alleged manhandling of Pradhan by Mishra.
