Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday issued show-cause notices to two party MLAs for remaining absent from key meetings convened ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha scheduled for Monday.
BJD chief whip in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Pramila Mallik, served the notices on Baliguda MLA Chakramani Kanhar and Jayadev MLA Naba Kishor Mallick for failing to attend meetings convened by party president Naveen Patnaik at his residence in the capital over the past three days.
In the notice, the two legislators have been directed to report to the BJD president at his residence, Naveen Nivas, by 9pm on Sunday.
“Considering this communication as a show-cause notice, they are hereby directed to report to Naveen Niwas by 9 pm on March 15, 2026,” the party said in a press release.
The BJD had earlier issued a whip directing all its MLAs to remain present in the capital from March 13 to 16 in view of the Rajya Sabha polls. The party had also asked legislators to attend mandatory training sessions at the BJD supremo’s residence during evening hours over the last three days as part of preparations for the election.
