Kamakhyanagar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Kanhu Charan Sahu sustained critical bullet injuries when unidentified miscreants shot at him in the Kamakhyanagar area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Wednesday night.
According to reports, three bike-borne miscreants stopped Sahu’s car around 10.45 pm yesterday while he was on his way home. The miscreants smashed the window pane of his vehicle and fired two rounds at Sahu, injuring him grievously. Sahu sustained bullet injuries in his hand and thigh.
The criminals fled the scene soon after the incident while locals rushed Sahu to Kamakhyanagar Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar as his condition deteriorated.
On being informed, the local police arrived at the spot and started an investigation. The police are examining the CCTVs in the locality for clues about the miscreants. They have also seized empty cartridges and glass pieces of glass from the site of the incident.
The reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, Sahu faced similar attacks in the past but escaped unhurt. On October 10, 2022, miscreants hurled bombs at his house and car. Then again, unidentified miscreants attacked Sahu with deadly weapons while going to the district office in Dhenkanal on December 28, 2018. The miscreants fired him but he escaped unhurt by taking refuge in the local police station.
