**Bhubaneswar**: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Baijayant Panda has laid emphasis on use of modern technology in High Courts across India for expediting justice delivery.
Raising the issue in Parliament, Panda informed that delivering justice has been delayed due to lack of computerisation in the courts in our country. “Only four High Courts are using e-filing system as of now and that too all of them are using it substantially,” the MP added.
“This means delays and manipulation in the justice delivery system which the legal system has been facing for the last few decades. Some courts are using Local Area Network (LAN), which is completely outdated whereas other Ministers of the Government are using mobile apps, Wi-Fi and broadband connectivity,” the parliamentarian observed.
“Would the honourable Minister assure us within a specific time frame means a year or two, all HCs can be connected through broadband or an app and have online e-filing,” Panda asked in the August house.
In reply, Union Law and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said computerisation of HCs is already completed and the lawyers must develop an attitude for optimum use of technology in the courts.
Terming Panda as an experienced member of the Parliament and well-informed about technology, Prasad said the e-filing depends upon the lawyers and they must be trained and they must have the aptitude.
The Union Minister also said, many lawyers still enjoy filing in the proper written forms and therefore, we must sensitise to use more and more technology while delivering justice in future.
