After that the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly sent the ‘Resolution passed by the Assembly’ to the Centre. I urged the Centre to consider the state Assembly proposal.”
Earlier this month, Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro said that a letter has been received from the Centre regarding the formation of the legislative council in Odisha. It has been suggested that there should be interaction with the Parliamentary Affairs department. He said that the response from the Centre containing details about the procedure for formation of the legislative council has been forwarded to the Secretary of the Parliamentary Affairs department.
The Odisha Legislative Assembly had passed the resolution meant for the proposed Legislative Council on September 6, 2018. On the same day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “Odisha has picked up growth momentum. To further accelerate growth, wider consultations are necessary. In this context, Legislative Council will be of great help.”
