BJD MPs Urge Tourism Minister To Expedite Renovation Of Barabati Fort Moat

Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha members Sasmit Patra and Subash Chandra Singh on Friday met Union Tourism & Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy and submitted a memorandum for expediting renovation work of the moat (Gadakhai) of Barabati Fort at Cuttack.

In the memorandum, the parliamentarians have drawn the attention of the Union Tourism Minister that though the Government of India has sanctioned Rs 17 crore towards renovation work of Barabati Fort (Gadakhai) at Cuttack by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), despite correspondences from Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and the State government, the ASI has neither started the work nor handed over the same to the State government for execution.

The BJD MPs have pointed out that three months have elapsed since the Tourism Minister had assured in the Rajya Sabha that funds have been allocated and ASI would start work soon but the ASI is yet to start the work.

The MPs have requested the Minister to intervene in the matter and instruct ASI authorities to expedite the work and complete it within a short span of time.

The Minister has assured the MPs that work on the project will be completed soon.
