BJD Now Facing Biju Babu’s Janata Dal Fate Of 1990s: BJP
**Bhubaneswar: ** In the wake of BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik slapping suspension order on Kendrapada BJD MP Baijayant Panda for his ‘anti-party’ and ‘indisciplined’ activities, the ruling party’s bete noire BJP termed BJD’s present state of affairs as histroy repeats itself.
The saffron party on Thursday drew a comparison between the then Janata Dal led by Biju Babu and today’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by his son Naveen Patnaik.
In his reactions on BJD’s Wednesday evening action against Baijayant Panda, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram stated, “I think Baijayant Babu was doing the right act. In view of internal democracy, he was on right track. Same also Dama Babu. Even though it is their party’s internal matter, the issues raised by them are right. The major issue is who should actually rule over the party?”
Substantiating his viewpoint, the senior BJP leader added, “BJD MPs Nagendra Pradhan, Tathagata Babu and also Bhartruhari Mahtab have voiced their concerns over the issues. This evinces trumoil in the BJD. Who is the de facto ruler of the government here is now proved.”
“It’s repetition of Janata Dal’s 1995, 96 and 97. Nobody in the party then cared for Biju Babu. Consequently his government got toppled. This time Naveen Babu will also see the same fate,” Jual remarked.
On the contrary, BJD spokesperson Samir Dash defended, “We all welcome the step taken by our party president. It was essential. BJD pays utmost importance to discipline. For the last many days, allegations against Mr Panda kept on mounting from his own parliamentary constituency. Our party president had ordered for a probe. After receipt of the probe report and taking into consideration all the angles, the party president has taken the appropriate action. The decision is welcomed by our party.”
“Let BJP mind its own internal wrangling. Several instances are there like that of Bijoy Babu, Dilip Babu. There is no need of poking nose into and raking up brains for BJD’s internal matter,” the BJD spokesperson hit back at BJP.
