BJD Objects To BJP’s Press Meet Amid EC Ban Period, Demands Strict Action Against TV Channel Also

Bhubaneswar: Vehemently opposing to today’s press meet convened by Odisha unit BJP and addressed by Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan allegedly violating the ban period imposed by the Election Commission for such activities as the Phase-I poll is tomorrow, BJD today petitioned the Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) against it.

BJD also filed an additional petition against an Odia TV channel for violating the same ban in force and had its live telecast.

The BJD delegation comprised party spokepsersons Sasmit Patra, Lenin Mohanty and Sulata Deo.

Talking to media, Sasmit Patra said, “A while ago we had moved the Election Commission and complained that political parties can’t hold press meet amid the ban period. Despite that, BJP today held a press meet and thus, grossly violated the ban in force.”

He added, “In that context, we have also filed an additional petition how an Odia TV channel aired the press meet live. When one does the live broadcasting, the content need to be checked. It is also a gross violation of this ban period.”

“Today we have urged the CEO to take stringent action against the TV channel and BJP,” the BJD spokesperson informed.

On the contrary, the TV channel in its counter reactions has denied such allegations while no counter reactions were available till the filing of this news.
