BJD Optimistic Of More Primary Members During Ensuing Membership Drive

Bhubaneswar: After retaining power for the fifth consecutive term after this year’s general elections, Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has now targeted to have 50 lakh members during its upcoming drive.

The membership drive is going to begin from September 2 to October 31 this year.

Convening a press meet at the BJD State Headquarters here, senior MLA and party vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra said, “BJD’s expanded State Executive Body Meeting will be held here on September 1 at Bhubaneswar IDICOL Conference Hall. It will be chaired by our party president-cum-Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. All the members, all newly elected MLAs, MPs, District Observers, District Party presidents, State heads of our party’s various frontal organizations have invited to join this meeting.”

He informed, “Our party president has announced membership drive and to collect primary members for our party from September 2 to October 31. We had formed two committees and the members of these committees have discussed on the matter. The party president was apprised of the discussions made. The blue print meant for the purpose will be finalized on the day. It is to be implemented in all the rural areas, urban areas, wards, district and block levels.”

He further informed, “The membership drive will be launched on September 2. This will be graced by our party president-cum-Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.”

Responding to media query, the BJD vice-president stated, “Last time the number of members collected was 46-47 lakh. Hence, we hope 50% more members this time as crave for our party has increased. The primary membership number will definitely increase remarkably as our party has inspired the women and youth mass.”
