**Kendrapada:** Sarpanch Chitra Sen Das was beaten to death at Chandi Bazaar in Singiri under Aul Police Station. Agitated locals resorted to road blockade disrupting vehicular movements along the Cuttack-Chandbali highway stretch. A DSP along with 2 platoons of police force reached the spot to control the situation.
Chitra Sen was on his way to Aul from Singiri on his bike when near Chandiyagandi some miscreants chased him. He parked his bike and started running. The miscreants caught hold of him and badly assaulted him due to which he died on the spot, as alleged by his family members in the FIR filed.
Meanwhile, in DRDA office premises, a bomb was hurled near Zilla Parishad’s Chairman Shridhar Swain’s office chamber window. No damage has been caused, but the officials and staffs are panicky.
Police has initiated investigation to ensure a link between the bomb blast and Singiri Sarpanch’s murder.
The bomb was hurled between 8 and 8.30 am on Wednesday and the miscreants are unknown.
The Zilla Parishad chairman belongs to the Aul assembly segment and has been elected to the Kendrapada Zilla Parishad (ZP) from Aul ZP zone.
Police is suspecting a link between the two incidents and investigation is on.
Following the road blockade and growing demand by the irate public for action against Aul PS IIC for his alleged inaction and lackadaisical attitude, the Kendrapada SP on the day transferred the controversial IIC in a bid to pacify the resentment following which the road blockade was withdrawn.
