Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD took out a bike rally here on Monday protesting against reduction of kerosene quota for Odisha.

Hundreds of Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) activists, led by minister and BCJD president Sanjay Das Burma, MLAs Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Byomkesh Ray and Pranab Balabanta Ray, began the rally from the party headquarters to the Governor’s House.

A delegation of party leaders met Governor SC Jamir and submitted a memorandum through him addressed to President Pranab Mukherjee.

Talking to the newsmen after the meeting, Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma said, “The Union Petroleum Minister said that Odisha CM and Governor are also getting PDS kerosene. The Union Minister shouldn’t make such irresponsible statements. He should clarify that why the kerosene quota was reduced.”

On the other hand, BJP state vice-president Sameer Mohanty defended the Central Government and said, “They are trying to divert the issue as their inefficiency has been exposed. The State Government is responsible for kerosene black marketing and they should make sure efficient distribution of kerosene in the state.”
