Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today slammed the newly-elected BJP government over skyrocketing prices of essential commodities including food items that pinched the pockets of the common man.
At a press meet, BJD MLA and Opposition chief whip Pramila Mallik and party leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar came down heavily on the BJP government for failing to contain the rising prices of vegetables and other food items.
Mallik said that prices of essential goods skyrocketed barely a month after the BJP formed the government. The inflated prices continue to affect the kitchen of the common people.
The Opposition chief whip further said the price of rice has increased by Rs 5 per KG while Dal witnessed a rise of Rs 10 per kg. The price of edible oil also reached high while potato and onion touched Rs 35 and Rs 45 per KG, she added. The price of some other green vegetables has also gone up to Rs 100.
Similarly, her party colleague Samantsinghar lambasted the State government for sitting silent at a time when the prices of food items are increasing steadily. She said that a BJP minister recently said that the State government has no role in controlling the prices. She said that the double-engine government should immediately act on the rising prices with the help of the Centre, failing which the BJD will take to the streets in the interest of the common people.
Meanwhile, Pramila Mallik slammed the Union Mnister Dharmendra Pradhan for comparing Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, his deputies, KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida with Lord Jagannath and his siblings.
